It is located in Northern Mindanao, 714 km south of Manila and 90 km north of Cagayan de Oro City. It has five municipalities, Mambajao (capital). Catarman, Sagay, Guinsiliban and Mahinog. It is 292 square kilometers and has good paved road around the island measuring approximately 62 km.


Climate
Its climate is generally warm with seasonal rains on June to October. Cooler weather and still with seasonal rains from November to January. And very warm weather on February until May.


Festivals
Lanzones Festival, held annually on the third week of October to celebrate the island’s bountiful harvest of the Lanzones fruit. It is celebrated with lively street dancing, open market and nightly programs. Feast of San Juan, held annually on June 24 in honor of St. John the Baptist. It is celebrated with processions, parades and water games. It is a day spent on the beach with picnics and fun. Panaad, held annually during the Lenten season. It is a week of people walking around the island to fulfill their “Promise” of faith. It is ended by their praying at the Old Volcano’s stations of the cross.


People and Language
People are generally friendly and hospitable. Cebuano/Visayan is the main dialect but a few still speak the Kinamiguin dialect. Almost all are able to speak and understand English fairly.
